The Global Terrestrial Net Primary Productivity Model Intercomparison Activity is based on two workshop held in Potsdam, Germany, in July 1994 and June 1995. The workshops were hosted by GAIM, DIS, and GCTE.
At these unique meetings on global models of terrestrial net primary productivity, IGBP scientists discussed data results displayed by interactive visualisations of global maps that IGBP-DIS had formatted from full datasets supplied by the participants. Each working group had access to several workstations provided by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, and each participant could visualise model parameters and compare them with those from other meeting participants by generating color maps at request.
Potsdam 1995 results were surprising in that significant discrepancies between model results using the same input data.
